QUEEN

Freddie insistió en renombrar a la banda y suya fue la idea de bautizarla como Queen. Al mismo tiempo, cambió su apellido artístico y se convirtió desde ese momento en Freddie Mercury. Tras las innovaciones, el trío probó con varios bajistas hasta que en 1971 se incorporó a la formación un personaje tranquilo y sosegado, John Deacon.

Casi una década después, cuando ya había paladeado las mieles del éxito con Queen, Mercury hizo realidad otro de sus sueños. Siempre había sido un apasionado de la danza y el 7 de octubre de 1979 actuó con el Royal Ballet, para interpretar y bailar Bohemian Rhapsody y Crazy little thing called love.


La vida de excesos derivada de la fama y el éxito fue una leyenda que acompañó inevitablemente a Freddie Mercury y sus fiestas fueron siempre sonadas, pero también se reconoció al músico por ser un gran amigo de sus amigos. Hacia finales de los setenta rompió su relación sentimental con Mary Austin y comenzaron a surgir rumores sobre su cambio de orientación sexual. Los comentarios arreciaban apoyados por el cambio radical de imagen que mostró el músico hacia 1980. Cortó al mínimo su larga cabellera y se dejó crecer un gran bigote, imitando la estética gay
